Reflecting On The Performance

Now that the show has officially had its theatrical debut, I can reflect on how it went. First, I want to say I am massively happy with the turnout. Competing with fringe festivals and multiple tube, bus and train strikes, we had a small but well-receiving audience. More so the first night than the second, but I am still grateful to both sets. They propelled my performance and relinquished some of my nerves.
The first night went on without a hitch technically and I felt that although I did miss a few lines, I was fully present and in the moment for the show. Coming to it having had a disaster of a final dress rehearsal I was worried. Sound cues went off late and out of order, I kept dropping important lines, and the heat started to get to all of us. We ended up having to stop multiple times in the final dress and didn’t get a full run-through before putting it up in front of an audience.
The second night mimicked the dress rehearsal in a way because certain sound cues were skipped and dialogue between me and the voiceovers lagged. I think I noticed it more than anyone in the audience, but it rattled my performance nonetheless.
I received really nice feedback after both nights with individuals telling me to keep going with the show because it has a wider audience it needs to reach.
Overall, I am really pleased with what I accomplished, but I do wish I had a little more time in the rehearsal rooms without the stress of all other aspects of the show looming over me. It was a wonderful learning experience to run all the different aspects of a show behind the scenes, but I think when I do it again I will want just focus on the acting bits so that I feel more prepared as a performer for the show.
